Counselling & Therapy
A Compassionate, Present and Holistic Approach to Healing
Overview
Lighthouse Journeys offers counselling and therapeutic support for adults, children and adolescents within a safe, grounded and nurturing environment. The work is deeply relational, trauma-aware and guided by the understanding that healing unfolds naturally when we are met with presence, attunement and respect.
Each therapeutic journey is unique. Sessions are held with care, sensitivity and an openness to meet you exactly where you are, supporting both emotional healing and deeper self-connection.
Therapeutic Approach
The foundation of this work is a deeply present and embodied therapeutic relationship. Space is held gently and safely, allowing the inner healing process to emerge in its own time.
– Client-centred and non-pathologising
– Trauma-informed and nervous-system aware
– Respectful of each person’s pace and lived experience
– Supportive of emotional, psychological and inner growth
A strong commitment to personal inner work underpins this practice, enabling authentic connection and a depth of understanding that comes from lived experience rather than theory alone.
Working With Adults
Counselling for adults offers a supportive space to explore life challenges, emotional patterns and inner experiences in a way that feels grounded and contained.
This work may support:
– Emotional regulation and resilience
– Healing from past experiences and trauma
– Anxiety, grief and loss
– Life transitions and relationship challenges
– Greater self-understanding and empowerment
– Reconnection to inner wisdom and meaning
Sessions are collaborative and responsive, adapting to what arises naturally within the therapeutic process.
Working With Children & Adolescents
There is a particular love and dedication to working with children and young people. Therapy is offered in a way that honours their natural way of communicating and making sense of the world.
Child-Centred Play Therapy
Work with children is grounded in the principles of child-centred play therapy, where play becomes the language of healing.
In this context, play:
– Provides a safe and supported avenue for self-expression
– Allows children to process experiences without being overwhelmed
– Helps resolve inner conflicts, tensions and emotional difficulties
– Supports healing without the pressure to verbalise
This approach enables children to connect more deeply with themselves, express thoughts and feelings naturally, and gently heal from trauma.
What Play Therapy Can Support
Play therapy can assist children experiencing:
– Anxiety and emotional distress
– Grief, loss and separation
– Nightmares and sleep disturbances
– Bullying and social challenges
– Overstimulation and emotional overwhelm
– Aggression or behavioural difficulties
– Attachment concerns
– Early or developmental trauma
It is also particularly supportive during times of adjustment, including:
– Divorce or family separation
– School transitions
– New siblings
– Death or illness in the family
– Changes in family dynamics
Early Intervention & Non-Verbal Support
Play therapy is a powerful form of early intervention and does not require a child to speak directly with the therapist.
This makes it especially effective for:
– Non-verbal children
– Children who struggle to articulate feelings
– Young children as early as 2 years of age
When appropriate, sessions may also incorporate:
– Sand play
– Art therapy
– Story-based therapeutic work
– Nature-based therapy
These modalities offer additional pathways for expression, regulation and integration.
